LEPYUTIN is an band from Bangkok, Thailand, gradually gaining prominence in the local indie music scene with their versatile musical style and highly creative sound. In 2024, they released debut album《Deviation From The Norm》, blending alternative rock, psychedelic, and jazz elements to create an exploratory auditory experience. We are thrilled to invite them for an interview this time, where they’ll share their creative concepts, allowing more people to gain a deeper understanding of this rising star band from Thailand.

Q1. Can you tell us about the formation of the band and the origin of the band name?
可以介紹一下樂隊的組成經過及樂隊名稱的由來嗎？
Our band’s name started as Putin Yourass, a name that reflected our energy and fun. But as time went by, we felt the need for something with a bit more flair, so we evolved into Le Putin. However, as a band that moves with the rhythm of time, we knew there had to be a shift. Enter daylight saving time: when the world shifts, so do we—LEPYUTIN emerges, embracing change and adding a touch of fun to everything.
我們樂隊的名字最初是「Putin Yourass」，這個名字反映了我們的活力和趣味。但隨著時間的推移，我們覺得需要一個更有格調的名字，因此演變成了「Le Putin」。然而，作為一個隨著時代節奏而變化的樂隊，我們知道必須有所改變。於是，進入了夏令時間：當世界發生變化時，我們也隨之而變——「LEPYUTIN」誕生了，擁抱變化，為一切增添一絲趣味。

Q2. Your music is a mix of various styles. How do you deal with the variations in arrangements between tracks in your music production?
你們的音樂混合著多種的音樂風格，在音樂製作上，要如何去處理不同曲目間編曲的變化？
Our music blends Alternative Rock, Psychedelic, and Jazz. When it comes to arrangement, we approach it like crafting a continuous cinematic experience—like watching a film that unfolds seamlessly from beginning to end. We aim to create a cohesive journey, piecing together a bigger picture that immerses us fully in the story we’re telling through our music.

Q3. Can you share with us the concept behind"Deviation From The Norm"?

The album itself explores a variety of themes and moods, with each song bringing its own unique atmosphere—some even shifting moods within a single track. Our goal with Deviation From The Norm is to challenge conventional music-making within our home culture. We aim to break away from repetitive formulas, experimenting with as many sonic textures and colors as possible while staying true to our creative direction.

Q4. Where does the inspiration for your songs mainly come from?
你們的歌曲靈感主要來自哪裡？
Our inspiration comes from a wide range of artists who push musical boundaries, such as Pink Floyd, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, King Crimson, Black Midi, and BadBadNotGood. We’re drawn to their fearless experimentation, dynamic compositions, and ability to blend genres in unexpected ways. Their influence drives us to explore new sounds, break conventions, and craft music that feels both unpredictable and immersive.

Q5. Can you tell us a little about the band’s songwriting process? Are ideas fleshed out through jamming or some other method?
可以分享你們的歌曲創作過程嗎？你們是透過即興演奏還是使用其他方法來創作？
Most of our songs and demos originate from jamming, with different band members bringing in ideas that we develop together in the jam room. With all six of us involved, we blend our individual influences into a unified sound. Sometimes, we start with a riff, melody, or chord progression and build on it, adding layer by layer, connecting notes like pieces of a larger picture we’re trying to discover. Our approach is to keep the music fresh and solid in the early stages, then refine it by focusing on the elements that truly resonate. The song can evolve at any time—it all depends on how we feel in the moment.
我們大部分的歌曲和Demo都源於即興演奏，不同的樂團成員會帶來各自的想法，然後我們在排練室共同發展。我們六個成員共同參與，將各自的影響融合成統一的聲音。有時我們從一段旋律、旋律或和弦進行開始，然後逐層構建，像拼湊一幅更大的畫面。我們的做法是在早期階段保持音樂的新鮮感和穩定性，然後將焦點放在真正能引起共鳴的元素上來進行精煉。歌曲隨時可能演變，一切取決於我們當下的感覺。

Q6. What is the independent music scene like in Thailand? How do you think the environment you live in affects your work and sound?

The independent music scene in Thailand is evolving, with more artists pushing boundaries and exploring new creative directions as they dive deeper into their own identities. We’re reaching a point where musicians are experimenting more freely, breaking away from conventional structures, and embracing diverse influences. This environment encourages us to keep expanding our sound, challenging norms, and staying true to our creative direction.
泰國的獨立音樂場景正在發展，越來越多的藝術家在深入探索自我身份的同時，突破界限並探索新的創作方向。我們正達到一個階段：音樂人可以更自由地進行實驗，擺脫傳統結構，接受多樣化的影響。這種環境鼓勵我們不斷擴展聲音，挑戰規範，並忠於我們的創作方向。

Q7. What artists or bands have most influenced your work?

Aside from the bands we’ve already mentioned, we’re constantly inspired by artists who take risks and innovate in their music. We admire musicians who blend genres, create immersive sonic landscapes, and challenge the boundaries of what music can be.

Q8. If you could collaborate on an album with another band or musician, who would it be, and what direction would the music take?

If we had to choose a collaboration right now, Bremen Entertainment Inc. from Taiwan would be the top pick. The energy and vibe they bring to their music really resonate. The vision is to create a project that’s full of energy and fun, blending unique styles to produce something truly unforgettable for both Thai and Taiwanese fans.

Q9. Do you have any future directions or goals for your music creation?

We’re always looking to push our sound further—experimenting with new techniques, incorporating different musical influences, and evolving both as individual musicians and as a band. Whether through live performances, new recordings, or collaborations, our goal is to keep surprising ourselves and our listeners while staying true to the essence of exploration and creativity that defines us.

Q10. You guys came to Hong Kong to perform last month, what do you think about this city? Do you think it’s different from performing in other cities?
你們上個月來了香港現場演出，你們對香港這個城市有什麼想法？覺得跟在其他城市演出有沒有甚麼不一樣的地方？
We really love it there! Shout out to Bandmennofool for bringing us there and take a really good care of us there. One thing that we can feel after performed in Hong Kong, it’s that people really supportive and open to listen to the new comer artists. And we feel that the community here can growing bigger and we will be waiting for that day to come back here again.
